Smoked Paprika, colored … nobody wins. In flavor, different from its peers (sweet and spicy paprika) but exquisite at the same time.

Of American origin and of use dating back to the time of Christopher Columbus who used it as a gift for his benefactors the Catholic Monarchs back in 1492, a situation that takes place in the Monastery of Guadalupe (Cáceres), that is how it came to our land and more specifically to La Vera, where this fruit is now produced, which is given by the much-used Paprika in our gastronomy. In parallel and due to its great potential, also in Murcia at that time land and time were dedicated to the cultivation of this fruit. As of today, Vera and Murcia are the regions with the highest production of paprika in our country. And this difference in locations is what originated the distant kinds of Paprika that, being the same fruit, can give a different product.

In the case of Murcia, it is the sun itself that does the drying work in autumn but in the case of La Vera, a system had to be devised to dry the fruit that would later give the paprika powder and this was the drying to the smoke that provides us with the so valuable for its aroma and special taste: Smoked Paprika. When the fruit is picked and with the utmost care, it is placed in vertical flow dryers in which several floors are arranged: the oak wood bed through which the smoke air rises for 15 days, which manages to dry the peppers and « to smoke them »eliminating all the humidity that they contain, thanks also to a daily turning of all the fruits.

In addition to providing a unique color and flavor to our meals, Smoked Paprika helps our body in different areas:
